Nurture your child’s creative spirit in this fun introduction to ballet. This class uses both upbeat and beautiful classical music, games, and the building blocks of classical ballet to inspire an appreciation for music and provide the fundamental gross motor skills needed for dance. Students sharpen social awareness, coordination, and musicality while learning introductory ballet steps. The Eaglet class performs in both the Nutcracker Suite and Spring Showcase. There is a $120 program fee added to cover costumes.

During this beginning stage of dance development, introductory technique is the primary focus in ballet, which is learned through a series of repetitive movements that build upon each other. Students learn the five positions of feet and arms and participate in basic barre and center work. The Level 1 Ballet performs ballet pieces in both the Nutcracker Suite and Spring Showcase. This class has a $120 program fee added to cover costumes.

Ballet is the foundation of all disciplines of dance. Classes consist of barre work, center floor combinations, and instruction of terminology. CHCA Center for Dance’s curriculum represents the highest level of ballet training. Students begin to build their classical foundation while developing strength, flexibility, and control, emphasizing body placement and articulation of the feet. Each student is nurtured and encouraged as they progress through the curriculum. Competition students must be enrolled in both Ballet 2A and 2B. This class has a $150 program fee added to cover costumes and the Saturday Ballet Suite Rehearsal.

Ballet Suite Rehearsal

During this two hour timeframe, students enrolled in Ballet levels 2 – 5 will be called for various lengths of time to learn and rehearse our Nutcracker, Land of the Sweets during the fall, and our Spring Showcase ballet suite Febraury-April. Our Head of Ballet, Serena Hanavan, will send out a rehearsal schedule for each month letting all ballet students know which Saturdays they must attend according to their level and/or casting. This class is included with the $150 Ballet program fee and is excluded from your total Instruction Hours when tuition is calculated.
CBT Ballet

CBT Ballet is a specialized option designed for dancers who are eager to receive a more rigorous training regimen to help develop/refine their technique and artistry in classical ballet and contemporary. Personalized to each dancer, this track helps dancers define realistic goals and provides resources to help them prepare for the prestigious Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP) and Universal Ballet Competition (UBC) competitions. Dancers must be part of a Team Lyrical dance/CBT Ensemble, and also attend CBT Floor Barre, Ballet Level 4/5 A, B, & C, Contemporary Technique 4/5, Floor barre, and Pointe 4/5. This extra focus also helps prepare dancers for summer intensives and collegiate dance programs. The associated program fee of $795-$815 includes registration for one entry at both YAGP and UBC; costumes and additional travel expenses are not included. Floor Barre & Pointe 4/5

Floor barre is a ballet-based workout performed on the floor, focusing on alignment, turnout, and muscle engagement. It utilizes the floor to eliminate the pull of gravity, allowing dancers to concentrate on precise movements and proper muscle activation. This method is beneficial for both injury prevention/rehabilitation and for refining technique.
Jazz/Tap Combo 1

This class teaches the foundations of both jazz and tap for beginning dancers. The jazz portion will give the dancers the chance to learn basic skills such as leaps and turns while working on body awareness, balance, placement, and control while enjoying fun upbeat music and storytelling, enocuraging the dancer’s personality to shine thorugh! The second portion will be an introduction to tap and is a great opportunity to explore rhythm, weight-shift, and coordination while establishing a fabulous sense of musicality and showmanship at an early age. Tap is incredibly beneficial to a dancer’s overall development and sets them up for success as they enjoy exciting, upbeat music with a theatrical flair. This class has a $75 program fee added to cover costumes. The instructor will decide which style to present at the Spring Showcase.
Jazz Technique & Rehearsal Level 2

This class teaches the foundation of jazz dance, including leaps and turns. In level 2, beginning dancers perfect basic skills and begin to work on body awareness, balance, placement, and control. The second portion of the class, for level 2, focuses on preparing choreography for performance and competition. (If your dancer is not competing but is interested in learning choreography, she will have the option and opportunity to stay and learn the piece as an understudy.) Team Jazz Level 2 has associated fees to be billed a la carte that include choreography, costume and registration for 3 mandatory competitions.

This dynamic class focuses on building the essential elements every dancer needs: powerful leaps, clean turns, and the strength to support both. Dancers will train key techniques for various classical & trending skills, while also engaging in targeted strength and conditioning exercises designed to enhance control, stability, and injury prevention. This class is open and recommended for all Level 4 and Level 5 dancers.

This class fuses the elements of many dance genres, pulling most heavily from ballet, modern, and jazz. Dancers explore different movement qualities and textures, transitioning from fluid to staccato while implementing techinical skills such as leaps and turns. This class will also concentrate on floor work, strengthen the dancer’s ability to pick up new choreography, and practice improvisation and opportunities to generate their own movement. Significant emphasis is placed on teaching dancers how to intertwine storytelling, emotion, and most importantly, prayer, into their craft as they connect to God, the music, and their audience. This class is a prerequisite for participation in any level 2 competitive lyrical routine.

Going “en pointe” is the natural progression of classical ballet training. For students who have had at least three years of ballet training, this class is designed to introduce and prepare dancers for a future transition into pointe work and strengthen younger dancers who have recently begun their pointe training. Depending on the dancer’s age, foot structure, strength, and maturity, this class gives the instructor time to assess and map out each student’s readiness for the wonderful world of pointe work.
